The real threat to human existence is humans. Humans have a tendency to take more from nature than they offer and to take nature for granted. It is mankind’s deficiency in empathy and the inability to listen to and feel the world around us that shall ultimately be our downfall. The story of the Tainos and our African forefathers taught me that nature communicates with us. We only need observe it and have the patience to listen and hear. It sends warning signs when danger is foreboding, it feeds us, clothes us and protects us. We therefore should treat it with equal respect and understanding as our fellow human beings.
